EP. 008
AI for Solo Founders
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2026
Three big releases in seven days, and I put two of them against each other.
GPT-6 Astra came out Thursday. OpenAI's president called it a generational leap and said it might end up being what people point at as AGI. Big words. So I gave it the same brief I gave Fable 5.1 last week. Rebuild Loom for me. I recorded the whole thing.
Then ChatGPT Images 2.5 landed yesterday. You can draw in it now. You can leave a comment on one part of an image and it edits only that part.
I also rebuilt MSN Messenger, and you can go use it in about four seconds.
Lots to get into. Let's go.

THIS WEEK IN AI
1
Why it matters: Out September 3, and it is already on Plus, Pro and Business.
It is the best model OpenAI has ever shipped, and the tests everyone uses to rank these things are basically finished. Astra scored 98% and 99.9% on the two hardest ones. When a model maxes out the exam, the exam stops telling you anything.
What you will actually feel is the speed in the browser, the intelligence of the model, and the quality of literally everything it hands back. It is on another level.

2
Why it matters: Shipped yesterday to every tier, on desktop, mobile and web.
Type @Sketch and draw the layout you want instead of describing it for twenty minutes. Leave a comment on one part of an image and it edits only that part. Share the prompt behind an image so someone else can run it with their own photos.
Generation is up to 50% faster than 2.0. If you have ever fought an image model over one detail in the corner, that fight is mostly over.

THE SKETCH FEATURE
Worth ten seconds of your time. This is OpenAI's own demo of it. You type @sketch, then you draw.
Typing @sketch into the ChatGPT composer, with the Sketch option showing above it
Type @sketch in the box.
A rough coloured doodle of a character drawn on the ChatGPT sketch pad
Draw. Badly is fine.
A photoreal claymation chicken nugget character matching the doodle exactly
And that is what comes back. Same pose, same ketchup, same little green legs, and nobody described a word of it.
THE TEST
I gave Astra and Fable 5.1 the same job: rebuild Loom
Same brief, same day, two models. They did not land anywhere near each other.
Loom is not a small thing to rebuild. Screen capture, camera, upload, a share link, a viewer page that works for someone who has never heard of you. That used to be a team and a quarter.
One of them took five and a half hours. The other one took thirty five minutes.
Have a guess at which one you think won, then go watch it below.

GO PLAY WITH THIS
I rebuilt MSN Messenger in GPT-6 Astra
The sounds, the functionality, everything rebuilt.
This is a straight hit of nostalgia. I might be dating myself and exposing that I am a millennial here, but if you remember the MSN Messenger era, this is going to bring all of it back.
I built it to see how far Astra would go on one idea, and it went further than I expected. It is live, it works, and it costs you nothing.
Go send someone a nudge.

Contact list, conversation window, and yes, the nudge still works.
THIS WEEKEND
Three things you could build in one weekend
Not theory. Three things I have built and use, and any one of them fits in a Saturday.
The self improving brain. A set of files that hold your voice, your audience and your business, and get sharper every single time you use them. Everything else you build sits on top of this one.
The Instagram saves engine. You already save reels you never look at again. This turns them into content ideas written in your voice.
The newsletter kit. This exact newsletter. One file in, an email and a web page out, no dependencies. I released it this week and it is in the Dojo with everything else.
Do all three. One on day one, one on day two, one on day three. By day four you have a brain that knows your voice, something feeding it ideas, and a way to get the result in front of people.
THE TREND
The image shortcuts blowing up right now actually work
I did not think these would do anything. They do.
This is the trend all over social at the moment. Slash commands for image generation.
You give it a slash command and an image. That is the whole thing. The image model takes care of the rest.
I did not believe it held up, so I sat down and ran them. They do exactly what they say they do.
I put 100 of them into one document, sorted by what you are actually trying to fix.
A grid of four creators' reels all demonstrating image generation slash commands
Four different creators, same week, same trend. This is everywhere right now.
道
Everything I build lands here first
The newsletter kit went in this week. The whole thing that builds this exact email, plus the brain files and the saves engine.
Weekly live calls, the systems I am actually running, and a room full of solo founders who are shipping instead of researching.
First 7 days are free.

One last thing.
Astra rebuilt MSN Messenger in an afternoon. Both models had a real go at Loom. Everyone is going to spend this week arguing about which one is ahead.
None of that matters if you do not go and build something with it. The models keep getting better whether you use them or not.
Keep pushing forward,
